Registration is now open for the 12th edition of the ILO Academy on Social and Solidarity Economy (SSE)
 
The first ever virtual Academy on SSE will take place from 15 to 26 November 2021 in English, Portuguese, French and Spanish. The Academy will stimulate sharing of experiences from different regions on the latest approaches, policies, initiatives and partnerships that promote SSE as a tool for promoting decent work in human-centred recovery and building back better from the COVID-19 pandemic. Participation is free of charge for selected candidates. ILO and the UNTFSSE will participate in the OECD event “The Social and Solidarity Economy: From the Margins to the Mainstream”
 
The high-level virtual conference "The Social and Solidarity Economy: From the Margins to the Mainstream" will take place from 13 to 16 September 2021. Mr. Guy Ryder, the ILO Director General, will participate with opening remarks, while Mr. Vic Van Vuuren, ILO Enterprises Director and UNTFSSE Chair will intervene in the session "Building back better: the social economy as a driving force for change". Read more

Online Course on Enterprise Formalization now available in Spanish
 
The course was developed by the ILO SME unit in cooperation with ITC-ILO. It targets ILO staff, constituents and others interested in the topic, and takes around five hours to complete. It is a self-guided learning tool that covers the following thematic areas: 1) Introduction to informality in MSMEs, 2) Simplifying business registration, 3) Incentives to formalize, 4) Business productivity, 5) Enforcement and compliance and 6) Role of social dialogue. Convention 190 in action: preventing harassment of workers in Japanese banks
 
Labour banks (“Rokin Banks”) in Japan have been promoting workers’ access to finance for many years. They have also been in the vanguard when it comes to adopting international standards around workplace violence and harassment. Rokin Banks modelled their recent harassment guidelines directly on the ILO’s Convention 190, serving as an example and inspiration for legislation elsewhere in Japan, and for financial institutions around the world. Read more

“How to” Measure Job Quality in value chain development projects
 
Traditionally, value chain development projects have focused on measuring job creation. Yet there is now clear recognition that not only the number of jobs but also their quality matters to poverty alleviation and economic development. International labour standards and corporate social responsibility: the labour dimension of human rights due diligence
This course aims to strengthen the capacity of participants to understand the principles of international labour standards as they relate to company operations (including due diligence related to labour rights) and how those principles can be most effectively implemented in company operations.
