ILO joined ICA Africa ministerial meeting to discuss partnerships in advancing the SDGs

The ILO participated in the ICA Africa Cooperative Ministerial Conference Midterm Review which took place on May 23 to 26 in Casablanca, Morocco. A step toward promoting social inclusion through social and solidarity economy

On June 1 to 2, the “Conference on the Role of the Social and Solidarity Economy in Reducing Social Exclusion” was organized by UNIDO and the Hungarian Ministry for National Economy in Budapest, Hungary. Mr Vic Van Vuuren, the Director of the ILO’s Enterprises Department and the chair of the UNTFSSE, participated in the conference and presented on the ILO’s ongoing work on SSE. >>More

Domestic workers in Trinidad and Tobago develop a business plan for their cooperative

On May 12 to 13, the ILO organised a workshop with a domestic workers’ union in Trinidad and Tobago on developing a business plan. The workshop used the C-BED methodology, a low cost, action-based and participatory group learning approach designed by the ILO to help entrepreneurs and micro-business owners in planning and improving their businesses. >>More

B20 backs cooperative model

Two B20 policy recommendation papers to G20 include mentions on the role of the cooperatives and other social economy enterprises in promoting entrepreneurship. The Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) Policy Paper highlights the specificities of structures like cooperatives in helping SMEs to maintain their independence and identity or to strengthen negotiation power. The Employment and Education Policy Paper refers to the role of cooperative and social economy models in mutualizing risks and offering a good alternatives for women, youth and other disadvantaged groups. >>More↗
