Italy-ILO cooperation to support Palestinian cooperatives
 
The ILO has launched a new programme to develop Palestinian cooperatives and social entrepreneurship in order to boost sustainable development in the Occupied Palestinian Territory (OPT). The Cooperative Support Programme is a component of the 3-year Programme “Be the Impact”, funded by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation with the aim to strengthen the Palestinian cooperative sector as well as to consolidate the core principles of social entrepreneurship. Read more

ILO, KoSEA and SNU hold an international conference to share the findings of ILO project on strengthening SSE policy in Asia
 
An international research conference was jointly held by ILO, Korea Social Enterprise Promotion Agency (KoSEA) and Seoul National University (SNU) in Seoul, South Korea with overseas participants joining online on September 22. This conference was held as part of the ILO research project on Strengthening Social and Solidarity Economy Policy in Asia. The conference attracted more than 400 participants and 1400 viewers online from Asia and beyond. Read more

ILO participates in a webinar on the social economy and migrant entrepreneurship

New financial education materials
 
The financial education training portfolio continues to grow! In Ghana and Nigeria, Social Finance just published new training material targeting potential and returning migrants. The programme was also introduced last month in Ecuador and Peru to benefit Venezuelan migrants and vulnerable communities affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. These initiatives highlight the importance of building financial capabilities of migrants at all stages of the migration cycle (pre-departure, at destination, upon return). Read more

GIIN launches new investment theme on “Quality Jobs”
 
The Global Impact Investing Network (GIIN), with the support of the ILO and ITCILO, has launched a new investment theme dedicated to "Quality Jobs" as part of its Navigating Impact project! This theme draws on the collective knowledge and experience of a diverse set of 150+ stakeholders to help investors select impact strategies and adopt recommended sets of metrics that track performance toward their goals. This theme is especially relevant in the face of the economic implications of COVID-19 around the world and amidst conversations about progress towards the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The ESS Forum International is wrapping up its "Digital Mont-Blanc Meetings", which took place throughout September, and a final session planned on 1st October. The ILO spoke at a session on "Financing the Social and Solidarity Economy (SSE) - private or public financing". Greening Women-Led SMEs in Burkina Faso
 
A PAGE-facilitated green entrepreneurship training was held to assist business owners in improving ecological standards by fostering the greening of their businesses. This particular training course falls under an ILO programme, which overall plans to develop a coaching package for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to guide them in greening their businesses. COVID Response Alliance for Social Entrepreneurs
 
The ILO, together with 60 leading actors in social entrepreneurship, has joined the World Economic Forum's COVID Response Alliance for Social Entrepreneurs. Training on "Insurance for SMEs" in Uganda and Côte d’Ivoire
 
Social Finance is excited to organize its training on "Insurance for SMEs" two times in October, once in Uganda and another in Côte d'Ivoire (in French). During the training, participants will learn all about serving small businesses to manage risks, the latest global trends and recent successful examples, and designing the right products and distribution strategies to reach small businesses.

Online Course on Enterprise Formalization
 
The course was developed by ILO SME unit in cooperation with ITC-ILO. It targets ILO staff, constituents and others interested in the topic. It is a self-guided learning tool which takes around five hours to complete. The course covers the following thematic areas: 1) Introduction to informality in MSMEs, 2) Simplifying business registration, 3) Incentives to formalize, 4) Business productivity, 5) Enforcement and compliance and 6) Role of social dialogue. International Labour Standards and Corporate Social Responsibility: the labour dimension of human rights due diligence (19 October to 13 November)
 
The ILO's International Labour Standards are a critical component of Corporate Social Responsibility and Human Rights Due Diligence (HRDD). If they are to respect workers' rights, it is essential that companies have a solid understanding of the rights concerned. This course provides participants with the information, tools and networks they need to improve their skills in the field of labour-related human rights and core elements of effective HRDD.

SME Productivity: a course for policy-makers (7–18 December)
 
This course aims to help participants design policies that improve the productivity and working conditions of SMEs. Participants will use productivity measurement methods to analyze policy options and, ultimately, make informed recommendations. The programme provides a step-by-step look at real policies and strategies, as well as a space to practice core skills.

Enabling Environment for Sustainable Entreprises (EESE) in Central African Republic
 
In 2018-2019, the ILO has implemented an EESE programme in Central African Republic, following the request from the two national employers' organizations UNPC and GICA. The first step in the process has been the evaluation of the country's enabling environment, taking account the specific context of fragility and post-conflict recovery. The evaluation report is now available in French. Read more
