Draft guidelines concerning statistics of cooperatives
 
The ILO released the draft guidelines concerning statistics of cooperatives to be discussed for possible adoption at the 20th International Conference of Labour Statisticians (ICLS) in Geneva in October 2018. The guidelines were developed in consultation with a range of stakeholders including the Committee for the Promotion and Advancement of Cooperatives (COPAC) Technical Working Group on Statistics of Cooperatives, the cooperative movement representatives, national statistical offices, and government institutions in charge of cooperatives. Check the guidelines

The first consultation meeting towards developing a social economy policy takes place in South Africa
 
Within the framework of the “Development of a Social Economy Policy for South Africa” project funded by the Government of Flanders, the ILO, together with the University of Pretoria and KU Leuven in Belgium, organized the first international meeting on the 31st of July and the 1st of August in Pretoria, South Africa. Mullaitivu’s first all-female cooperative brings women farmers to the fore
 
Through the Local Empowerment through Economic Development (LEED) and the Employment Generation and Livelihoods towards Reconciliation in Sri Lanka’ (EGLR) projects, the ILO has engaged with around 40 cooperatives in northern Sri Lanka to support and improve the livelihoods of the members affected by the conflict. Through the cooperatives, farmers and fisher people have been able to access markets, benefit from the advantages of collective purchasing and marketing, access credit and social welfare programmes. Enterprises in Action brief highlights recent ILO’s work on cooperatives in East and South-East Asia and the Pacific
 
The ILO ENTERPRISES Department released the 2nd edition of “Enterprises in Action”. This brief focuses on activities in East and South-East Asia and the Pacific. It showcases cooperative and SSE-related activities including: Think.Coop training workshops in Myanmar, Cambodia and Laos with rural trade union members, informal economy workers and disadvantaged youth; and My.Coop training in Mongolia with herder cooperatives and in Viet Nam with agricultural cooperatives undertaken in partnership with Agriterra and the Vietnamese Cooperative Alliance (VCA) towards improving their management. Read the brief

ILO’s participation in the 17th National Cooperative Congress in Colombia
 
ILO Cooperatives Unit Manager Simel Esim participated in the 17th National Cooperative Congress organized by the Confederation of Cooperatives of Colombia (Confecoop) and presented on the role of cooperatives in achieving the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development with a specific focus on advancing decent work in rural economies and in post-conflict contexts.
