| Draft guidelines concerning statistics of cooperatives |

The ILO released the draft guidelines concerning statistics of cooperatives to be discussed for possible adoption at the 20th International Conference of Labour Statisticians (ICLS) in Geneva in October 2018. The guidelines were developed in consultation with a range of stakeholders including the Committee for the Promotion and Advancement of Cooperatives (COPAC) Technical Working Group on Statistics of Cooperatives, the cooperative movement representatives, national statistical offices, and government institutions in charge of cooperatives. | Through the Local Empowerment through Economic Development (LEED) and the Employment Generation and Livelihoods towards Reconciliation in Sri Lanka’ (EGLR) projects, the ILO has engaged with around 40 cooperatives in northern Sri Lanka to support and improve the livelihoods of the members affected by the conflict. Through the cooperatives, farmers and fisher people have been able to access markets, benefit from the advantages of collective purchasing and marketing, access credit and social welfare programmes. | Enterprises in Action brief highlights recent ILO’s work on cooperatives in East and South-East Asia and the Pacific |

| The ILO ENTERPRISES Department released the 2nd edition of “Enterprises in Action”. This brief focuses on activities in East and South-East Asia and the Pacific. It showcases cooperative and SSE-related activities including: Think.Coop training workshops in Myanmar, Cambodia and Laos with rural trade union members, informal economy workers and disadvantaged youth; and My.Coop training in Mongolia with herder cooperatives and in Viet Nam with agricultural cooperatives undertaken in partnership with Agriterra and the Vietnamese Cooperative Alliance (VCA) towards improving their management. | ILO Cooperatives Unit Manager Simel Esim participated in the 17th National Cooperative Congress organized by the Confederation of Cooperatives of Colombia (Confecoop) and presented on the role of cooperatives in achieving the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development with a specific focus on advancing decent work in rural economies and in post-conflict contexts.
