ILO COOP 100 Symposium

To celebrate the 100th anniversary of its Cooperatives Unit (COOP), the ILO is bringing together policy makers, researchers and practitioners working with cooperatives and the wider social and solidarity economy (SSE) for a two-day international symposium on November 16-17.
The symposium will highlight the contribution of cooperatives and the wider SSE in advancing social justice, decent work and the sustainable development agenda.

Masterclass series on investment promotion, sustainable development and recovery

The ILO and WAIPA, in collaboration with UNIDO and UNCTAD, have organised a series of masterclasses for investment promotion agencies (IPAs) from around the world. The series aimed at creating an online forum for dialogue, exchange of knowledge and good practices concerning COVID-19 related challenges and opportunities for sustainable recovery and "building back better" in the areas of trade, investment, inclusive growth and decent work . SIYB goes digital: introducing e-SIYB (5 November)

To support MSME survival and recovery, the Global SIYB Team and ITC-ILO, with the generous support of 17 ILO Country Offices and projects, developed e-SIYB: a set of online tools designed to facilitate delivery of SIYB trainings during the pandemic. This event will introduce the e-SIYB tools and discuss the role of trainings to strengthen MSME recovery and resilience. Register now

Online Course on Enterprise Formalization
|
| |
| The ILO has launched a new online course on enterprise formalization. It targets ILO staff, constituents and others interested in the topic. It is a self-guided learning tool which takes around five hours to complete. The course covers the following thematic areas: 1) Introduction to informality in MSMEs, 2) Simplifying business registration, 3) Incentives to formalize, 4) Business productivity, 5) Enforcement and compliance and 6) Role of social dialogue. Enrolment to the online course is free. |

Face-to-face training in Kenya: Making financial inclusion work for refugees and host communities
|

| In partnership with the ILO's International Training Centre, the Social Finance Programme will organize the first edition of the new training course "Making financial inclusion work for refugees and host communities" in Kenya, from November 16 to 20. This face-to-face training is targeting managers of financial service providers that serve or consider serving refugees and host communities with financial services. This new training programme is part of the PROSPECTS project, which aims to support refugees, internally displaced persons (IDPs) and host communities in recipient countries. |

Labour Standards in International Supply Chains - online training for SMEs
|

| The ILO's MULTI unit and SCORE programme collaborated in developing a training module for enterprises, in particular SMEs, to help them understand the expectations of international brands on social compliance issues and to provide guidance on what enterprises can do to improve and demonstrate their adherence to international principles and compliance with national law and corporate codes. This training module is being rolled out through ILO projects and activities, and it has now become a stand-alone online training course via the ITC-ILO e-campus (login required) in English and Spanish; Portuguese version is forthcoming. |

SME Productivity: a course for policy-makers (7–18 December)
|

| This online course aims to help participants design policies that improve the productivity and working conditions of SMEs. Participants will use productivity measurement methods to analyze policy options and, ultimately, make informed recommendations. The programme provides a step-by-step look at real policies and strategies, as well as a space to practice core skills. |

Applying labour law to micro, small and medium-sized enterprises: A comparative study of 16 countries
|

| This ILO working paper considers the ways in which different countries regulate labour rights for MSME workers, its main purpose being to improve understanding of current trends and developments in this area. The 16 countries covered by the study are Brazil, China, Colombia, Costa Rica, Egypt, Germany, Mexico, Nepal, Peru, the Russian Federation, South Africa, Spain, Sri Lanka, Sweden, Turkey and the United Republic of Tanzania. Case Brief: Tunajali

| The hardships imposed by the pandemic have put insurance at the centre of attention as an instrument of economic development. Tunajali is an inclusive insurance initiative in Paraguay, first piloted in February 2020 to offer insurance coverage for hospitalization and cancer detection among the most vulnerable segments.
