Social dialogue key to strengthen safety and health at work
|
| |
Today marks the World Day for Safety and Health at Work. Our new report focusses on enhancing social dialogue towards a positive occupational safety and health (OSH) culture. Each year, nearly 3 million workers die due to occupational accidents and diseases. Many more workers fall sick or are injured at work.
The pandemic has shown that an effective collaboration between social partners is the best way to implement OSH measures that can save lives in this and the next crisis. In many countries, social dialogue has resulted in the adoption of legal requirements – from measures to prevent and deal with cases of COVID-19 in the workplace to telework arrangements.
When OSH is considered as a core value and is integrated into every aspect of the work (including training), a positive OSH culture can be built, leading to reduced accidents and injury rates.
In June, the International Labour Conference will discuss the possible inclusion of occupational safety and health as a fundamental principle and right at work. Everyone wins when OSH is made a priority.
I wish you a good read,
