The International Labour Conference in 2022 will hold a general discussion on the Social and Solidarity Economy for a human-centred future of work
 
The 341st Governing Body of the ILO decided to place on the agenda of the 110th Session (2022) of the International Labour Conference (ILC) an item related to decent work and the social and solidarity economy (SSE). This is a historic decision. It will be the first time that a general discussion on SSE will be held at the ILC.

ILO Helpdesk for Business: more than 35,000 visitors per month
 
More than one million users have now consulted the ILO Helpdesk for Business web site (www.ilo.org/business) since its launch in 2010. The average number of visits per month is 36,452 for the reporting period (March 2020 to February 2021), the highest since the creation of the Helpdesk. During the period, the Helpdesk answered 178 receivable requests, which is a 40.1% increase over the previous reporting time. Much of this surge occurred in the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic. The annual report of the ILO Helpdesk for Business is now available online. Read more

Workshop on Strengthening Social and Solidarity Economy (SSE) Policy in Asia
 
The ILO held a three-day virtual workshop on March 29-31 as part of the second component of its project on Strengthening Social and Solidarity Economy Policy in Asia. The workshop brought stakeholders from six countries in Asia and the Pacific region. It was organized to raise awareness about the role of cooperatives and wider SSE in realising inclusive and sustainable development and to promote dialogue among constituents and key SSE stakeholders. Read more

UN PAGE partners celebrated the launch of 2020 annual report at the event with motto “STRONGER- TOGETGHER”
 
Gathering PAGE Funding Partners, Partner Country government focal points, collaborating partners, UN Agencies, PAGE National Coordinators and UN Resident Coordinators and Economists, PAGE held a celebratory event to launch its 2020 Annual Report, highlighting the Partnership's continued efforts to support countries in building Inclusive Green Economies and working together to achieve the 2030 Agenda. Read more

ENTERPRISES takes part in CSW65 side event on women’s entrepreneurship as an avenue to recovery
 
On 24 March 2021, Women Leading Economic Recovery Through Entrepreneurship event was organized as part of the 65th session of the Commission on the Status of Women. Represented by the Director of Enterprises Department Victor Van Vuuren, ILO spoke on the need to foster entrepreneurship from early age among girls and the need for a human centred approach given the diversity of women entrepreneurs across the world. The WEA partnership is a commitment between five UN agencies and corporate partners (spearheaded by Mary Kay) to empower 10 million women entrepreneurs by 2030. Read more

Launch of FORTER'ESS Project - Strengthening the resilience and promotion of decent work of women-led SSE organizations in Tunisia
 
The FORTER’ESS project is the result of a partnership between the Tunisian Government, the Canadian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as donor, and the International Labour Organization as implementing agency. It aims to strengthen the resilience of women-led Social and Solidarity Economy Organizations (SSEOs) affected by COVID-19 in two disadvantaged regions of Tunisia. Read more

Launch of a financial inclusion initiative for host communities and displaced persons in Iraq
 
The ILO and the Central Bank of Iraq, with support from the Government of the Netherlands, will launch a financial inclusion initiative to support host communities and displaced persons in Iraq. The initiative will support young people and small, and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to access much-needed financial services that will help them start and develop their own businesses, while addressing barriers for access to decent self-employment. Read more

Formalization and the MSD approach: business growth, resilience and improved working conditions
 
The webinar discussed the findings of a study, commissioned by the ILO and the Alliances Caucasus Programme (ALCP). The study identifies linkages between market access, enterprise formalization and decent work. The ALCP successfully used the market systems development approach to support farmers and agri-businesses in the Georgian dairy sector, which also resulted in enterprise formalization and decent work. Read more

Online Course on Enterprise Formalization now available in French
 
This course was developed by ILO SME unit in cooperation with ITC-ILO. It targets ILO staff, constituents and others interested in the topic, and takes around five hours to complete. It is a self-guided learning tool that covers the following thematic areas: 1) Introduction to informality in MSMEs, 2) Simplifying business registration, 3) Incentives to formalize, 4) Business productivity, 5) Enforcement and compliance and 6) Role of social dialogue. As we enter into the second year of the COVID-19 pandemic and its sustained difficulties for the tourism-dependent Pacific, personal income and employment continues to be a challenge. An ILO-led UN Joint Project titled "Inclusive Economic Recovery through Sustainable Enterprises in the Informal Economies of Fiji, Palau, Tonga and Vanuatu” is building the capacity of national Business Development Service (BDS) providers to meet the specific demands of informal sector creative and agriculture enterprises.  Read more
