The ILO's Cooperatives Unit (COOP) and Social Finance Programme (Social Finance) recently launched a research project on SSE and social innovation in Africa funded by the French Government. The objective of this initiative is to provide a better understanding of similar experiences in African countries in order to better support the development of socially innovative initiatives of Social and Solidarity Economy Organizations in selected countries in the region . Lessons from the Social Economy Policy project in South Africa: Understanding diversity

The ILO's Social and Solidarity Economy Policy project in South Africa is working on building a comprehensive understanding of social economy in the country to inform a policy that is inclusive. The findings from the National Survey conducted in 2019 informed the recommendations found in the Green Paper on the Social and Solidarity Economy. Lessons from the survey enables a better understanding on Social Economy organisations' status, their work, and their motivation. Read more

Addressing gender inequalities and promoting inclusivity in enterprises

More than 100 participants from ministries, employers’ and workers' organizations as well as training providers gathered together on 27 January to participate in a virtual Training of Trainers (ToT) on Gender Equality at the Workplace in Indonesia. The ToT was part of the ILO’s Sustaining Competitive and Responsible Enterprises (SCORE)’s latest module focusing on gender training. Read more

Impact of ILO SCORE Training on management practices, working conditions and business results in Peruvian SMEs

| This study is a major step forward toward improving our understanding of the impact of SCORE Training on the productivity and working conditions of SMEs. It shows that SCORE Training has a positive impact on the business operations, productivity and working conditions of participating firms. It also provides important lessons learned, building on the lessons learned of the previous impact studies; these will be instrumental in the design of future programmes to improve productivity and working conditions in SMEs. | The Peruvian Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation (MINAGRI) has introduced agriculture insurance as part of its policy to develop the competitiveness of the Peruvian agricultural sector. It established a catastrophic agriculture insurance programme to protect smallholder farmers engaged in subsistence farming.
