Promotion of sustainable enterprises for innovation, growth, more and better jobs

Season's greetings

We have come through a very challenging year which has seen a huge loss of jobs and the collapsing of many enterprises. A decline in incomes will see the global working poverty rate increase this year affecting women the most. A key learning is that the crisis has revealed the fragility of our economic and social systems, and the unacceptable level of inequality that prevails in our world today. I wish to thank all those who have played a part in delivering on the promotion of sustainable enterprises mandate during 2020.

So “Quo Vadis”?

We are repeatedly hearing the call to build back better and greener. What we need now is action to make this happen starting with national policy coherence and strategies that are aligned to tackling the current global and national challenges. This calls for an integrated rather than a silo approach at all levels. In delivering on our mandate on the promotion of sustainable enterprises we need to factor into all our activities the impact on people, society, the economy and the environment. Our services must be stronger "demand driven", "customer-oriented" and "human-centred".

Let us build on our solid foundation in building back better and greener in 2021 through the promotion of sustainable enterprises that in turn can positively impact on people, society, the economy and the environment.

We wish you a very happy end of the year and a great new year!
