The FORTER’ESS project is the result of a partnership between the Tunisian Government, the Canadian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as donor, and the International Labour Organization as implementing agency. The ILO Office in Turkey supports the establishment of women-run cooperatives
 
In the context of its support to women-run cooperatives of host community members and refugees, the ILO Ankara Office developed infographics on the steps to establishing a cooperative in four languages. In addition, the project provides information on how to integrate refugee members in the cooperatives on its website. The project staff have also launched a series of webinars to answer most frequently asked questions on cooperatives. More

Lessons from the Social Economy Policy project in South Africa: Understanding diversity

The last two ILO COOP 100 Slideshows showcases the work of cooperatives in Asia and the Americas
 
In 2020, ILO’s Cooperatives Unit commemorated its centennial. As part of the ILO COOP 100, the ILO featured the contributions of cooperatives and the wider social and solidarity economy (SSE) toward advancing decent work and sustainable development through a series of slideshows. The last two slideshows feature highlights from cooperatives in Asia and the Americas. The ten slideshows are available in English, French and Spanish and can be viewed here.

2021 is the United Nations International Year for the Elimination of Child Labour
 
The UN declared 2021 as the International Year for the Elimination of Child Labour. The ILO has been working on strengthen the capacities of cooperatives to work toward the elimination of child labour, including the development of a training programme that aims to raise awareness of agricultural cooperatives on child labour. ILO’s recent report highlights cooperatives as a way to improve conditions of homeworkers
 
The ILO’s new report calls for better protections for the hundreds of millions of people working from home globally. The report notes that the majority of homeworkers are women and many face wage and social protection gaps and heightened safety risks. The report also reflects on the role of cooperatives in improving the conditions of work for homeworkers. The report can be viewed here.
