Five steps to help women entrepreneurs cross the business gender divide
 
Women's Entrepreneurship (WE) Day falls every year on November 19th. It is a day to celebrate the contributions of women entrepreneurs and recognize their gendered experiences. On WE day 2020, the ILO's Women's Entrepreneurship Development programme hosted a webinar to introduce the business upgrading model being piloted in Somalia and published a blog post outlining the thought process that went into this 5-step approach. Read more

WEDay2020: SCORE Training to the benefit of women entrepreneurs
 
To date, over 590 female entrepreneurs have benefited from SCORE Training globally. In each programme country, strategies are put in place to ensure that it benefits as many women as possible. Depending on the different sectors in each country, SCORE Training is delivered, communication strategies and training materials are adapted to ensure that women benefit from the productivity gains & working conditions improvements. A two-day symposium is held to celebrate the centennial of the Cooperatives Unit of the ILO

ILO deepens its partnership with the UN Joint SDG Fund
 
The ILO has joined United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) to co-lead the UN Joint SDG Fund's Investor Advisory Group on People & Health. The group is one of five thematic clusters that are providing advice to applicant UN country teams to transform their proposals into impact-driven programmes. The People & Health group advises projects in the areas of women entrepreneurship, health and community, rural communities' access to health, livelihood improvement, nutrition enhancement and sustainable farming transition. Read more

Online training Uganda: Complementary health insurance
 
The Impact Insurance Facility and the Insurance Training College Uganda will organize the training “Complementary health insurance”, with support from FSD Uganda, from December 16 to 18 via Zoom. This training will provide microinsurance practitioners with knowledge and insight about factors applicable to the process of developing and launching simple health microinsurance programs. Read more

Building back better through international labour standards and corporate social responsibility
 
Over 90 tripartite participants from around the globe have wrapped up a month-long exchange of experiences and best practices through ILO's e-learning course - International Labour Standards and Corporate Social Responsibility: the labour dimension of human rights due diligence. Participants shared a strong interest in how businesses can maximize their positive impact on social and economic development, and in particular by respecting and promoting labour rights in and through their operations. Read more

RBCLAC launches 2nd call to finance initiatives on business and human rights in Latin America
 
The Responsible Business Conduct in Latin America and the Caribbean Project (RBCLAC), jointly implemented by the ILO, OECD and OHCHR and financed by the EU, has launched its second call for proposals of the RBCLAC Fund to finance initiatives that promote responsible business practices in the region. This call will prioritize initiatives that involve grassroots organizations in their implementation in the eligible countries (Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Panama, Peru and Mexico). The deadline to submit proposals is the 22nd of December 2020. Read more

Stakeholders of Japan's National Action Plan on Business and Human Rights issued Joint Comments following dialogue facilitated by the ILO
 
Japan adopted its National Action Plan on Business and Human Rights (NAP) on 16 October 2020. The Japan NAP references the ILO MNE Declaration as the important international guidance document for advancing decent work in supply chains, and the Government commits itself to its continued promotion. On this occasion, stakeholders including the employers and workers organisations issued a joint comment. ILO has participated in the NAP development process as a member of the Working Group as well as the Advisory Committee. Read more

ILO Green Jobs participated in GGKP Webinar on "Green jobs and a just transition: Country perspectives"
 
ILO Green Jobs Programme joined the Green Growth Knowledge Partnership (GGKP) for a discussion on how governments and business can lead a just transition to greener economies featuring country perspectives from Argentina and South Africa. In 2015, the ILO released a set of Guidelines for a just transition to environmentally sustainable economies and societies for all, providing a policy framework and a practical tool to ensure that responses to climate change advance employment creation, social justice and fair transitions for workers, enterprises and communities. Read more

Supporting the cooperative movement in Jordan
 
A steering committee overseeing the development of a national strategy for the cooperative movement in Jordan held its first meeting in November. The committee was formed by the Government of Jordan with ILO support in collaboration with the Jordanian Cooperative Corporation (JCC). The ILO, under the Partnership for improving prospects for forcibly displaced persons and host communities (PROSPECTS), in close collaboration with the ILO's Cooperatives Unit (COOP) is providing technical and financial support in the design and adoption of the Jordan Cooperative Development Strategy. ILO COOP Chiefs across time: Hagen Henrÿ, Chief of ILO COOP from 2007 to 2011
 
Hagen Henrÿ was the eleventh ILO COOP Branch Chief. He served in this position from 2007 till 2011. A German national born in 1952, Henrÿ has consulted on cooperative policy and legislation in/for many countries for national, regional and international governmental and non-governmental organizations. In this capacity he was also involved in the elaboration of ILO Recommendation on the Promotion of Cooperatives, 2002 (No. 193). He currently lives in Finland. At the end of November 2020 he retires from his position as Adjunct Professor and Research Director at the University of Helsinki. Read more
