ILO COOP 100 Symposium will be held on 16-17 November 2020
 
To celebrate the 100th anniversary of its Cooperatives Unit (COOP), the ILO is bringing together policy makers, researchers and practitioners working with cooperatives and the wider social and solidarity economy (SSE) for a two-day international symposium. Held virtually, the symposium will highlight the contribution of cooperatives and the wider social and solidarity economy (SSE) in advancing social justice, decent work and sustainable development. The Symposium will be accessible through Zoom, and it will be livestreamed on ILOTV on Day 1 and 2. To register for the event, please visit here. ILO Tokyo Office’s COOP 100 Interview Series “Cultivate the COOPs” continues
 
ILO Tokyo Office has initiated a series of interviews with Japanese cooperative leaders, called “Cultivate the COOPs” to mark the occasion of the centenary of the ILO’s COOP Unit. While the interviews are conducted in Japanese, they are also translated into English. The first three interviews were conducted with Ms. Kiyoko Koto (JCCU), Mr. Nobuhiro Tamaki (JWCU), and Mr. Akihiro Takatsuka (JA ZENCHU).

ILO COOP Chiefs across time: Juergen Schwettmann, Chief of ILO COOP from 1992 to 2000
 
Juergen Schwettmann was the tenth ILO COOP Branch Chief. He served in this position from 2001 till 2006. A German national born in 1954, he started working at the ILO in 1988 as Regional Advisor on Cooperatives in West Africa. He joined the COOP Branch in Geneva as Senior Technical Advisor in 1994 and served in that capacity before becoming the Chief of the Branch in 2001. After leaving the COOP Branch in 2006, he took on several positions in Africa and in Geneva. He retired from the ILO in 2015. He currently lives in Germany with his wife and three kids. More
