| The ILO has launched a new programme to develop Palestinian cooperatives and social entrepreneurship in order to boost sustainable development in the Occupied Palestinian Territory (OPT). The Cooperative Support Programme is a component of the 3-year Programme “Be the Impact”, funded by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation with the aim to strengthen the Palestinian cooperative sector as well as to consolidate the core principles of social entrepreneurship. ILO COOP Chiefs across time: Joseph Ciro Fazzio, Chief of ILO COOP from 1992 to 2000

| Joseph Ciro Fazzio was the ninth ILO COOP Branch Chief. He served in this position from 1992 until his retirement in 2000. A US national born in 1940, he started working in the ILO at COOP in Geneva before taking on a series of field appointments, in ILO Port of Spain, Lagos, and Dhaka offices before rejoining COOP in Geneva in 1987. He lives in Germany with his wife Gabriele Ullrich who also worked in ILO COOP. More |

The story of a friendship: Juan Somavia and Ivano Barberini
|

| Juan Somavia was the ILO’s 9th Director-General from 1999 to 2012. Ivano Barberini was the President of the International Cooperative Alliance (ICA) until 2009. In 2001, the International Labour Conference discussed an item on the “Promotion of Cooperatives” which led to the adoption of ILO Recommendation 193, in 2002 under the same title. After attending the ICA General Assembly in Oslo together a year later, Juan and Ivano signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and a “Common Cooperative Agenda” in 2004, the first of its kind since the establishment of the two organizations. Survey Report from Cooperatives Europe: COVID-19 crisis and its economic and social impact on cooperatives

| The survey report collected views and experiences from cooperative enterprises active in the European region, and neighbourhood countries, and national members apex organisations, representing all together close to 90 per cent of the cooperative movement in Europe across various sectors of economic activity. The three parts of the report include: (i) the social and economic impact of the COVID-19 on cooperatives’ business activities, turnover and workforce; (ii) the most needed support measures to help them face the crisis; and (iii) considering the specific structure of the cooperative business model, how cooperative enterprises are coping with the crisis. FAO framework on ending child labour in agriculture

| This framework on ending child labour in agriculture notes that FAO can collaborate with relevant partners such as the ILO to build capacity of extension agents on risk assessment methodologies to identify existing hazards, feasible alternatives and mitigation strategies, and to raise awareness on child labour among agricultural stakeholders (local forestry stakeholders, including producers, cooperatives and workers), supporting their participation in local child labour monitoring systems. Statistics Portugal launches the Social Economy Sector Survey

| Statistics Portugal launched the most recent study about the social economy sector in Portugal in collaboration with Cooperative António Sérgio for the Social Economy (CASES). This report constitutes the second half of results from the survey carried out in 2019. It shows information regarding the characteristic of the sector, in terms of activities, internal composition, volunteer work, financing structure, social responsibility initiatives and relations with public and private sector entities.
