On the occasion of the 2019 International Day of Cooperatives on Saturday July 6, ILO Director-General Guy Ryder has issued a video message focusing on this year’s theme “Cooperatives for decent work”. An observance of the 2019 International Day of Cooperatives at the UN in New York
 
An observance of the 2019 IDC was organized at UN HQ in New York by the Committee for the Promotion and Advancement of Cooperatives (COPAC) which is currently chaired by the ILO. An official from ILO New York participated in the event and reflected on the role of cooperatives in developing businesses, providing affordable goods and services and representing voice for workers in rural and informal economies towards decent work. More

SADA Women’s Cooperative participates in the 2nd Festival of Women’s Cooperatives
 
SADA Women’s Cooperative was established in April 2019 within the framework of the project ‘Strengthening the resilience of Syrian women and girls and host communities’. The cooperative presented its handmade products such as bags, tablecloths and bedlinens at the 2nd Festival of Women’s Cooperatives held in Antalya, Turkey. It also participated in a two-day workshop concerning women’s cooperatives and discussed key issues about marketing and e-commerce with specialists. More

Statistics Portugal releases the results of Social Economy Satellite Account and Survey on Volunteer Work
 
Statistics Portugal, in partnership with the António Sérgio Cooperative for Social Economy (CASES), released the results of the third edition of the Social Economy Satellite Account (SESA) for 2016. In 2016, Social Economy Gross Value Added (GVA) accounted for 3.0% of total GVA, increasing 14.6%, compared to 2013. The two organizations also released the results of the Survey on Voluntary Work (SVW) for 2018. In 2018, 695 thousand people, with 15 years or more, engaged in volunteer activities in the country.
 
 
The cooperative enterprise – Practical evidence for a theory of cooperative entrepreneurship
 
This book presents a study of cooperatives as a two-layer entrepreneurial model and analyses cooperative enterprises. Above all, it explores how inducements (from the firm) and contributions (from its members, in their respective roles) are aligned, and seeks to answer the question of what this means for managing each cooperative as a firm as well as a group. More
